History

  • The Young Mayor Network was born out of an idea conceived in partnership between Newham Council and The Campaign Company. It was established to meet the support needs of democratically elected Young Mayors that local authorities alone cannot meet.

Launch

The Young Mayor Network was launched in Newham on 22nd May 2008 with Young Mayors from across London visiting the Olympic Park Viewing Gallery. They received a presentation from the local 2012 Unit and talked about the engagement of young people in the lead up to and beyond the 2012 Games. This session was followed by a more formal meeting at Stratford Old Town Hall where the Young Mayors first discussed the principles that now form the basis of the guiding Charter
